Cape May is known for its beaches, Victorian charm, restaurants, attractions, and generations of family-owned businesses—and FOX 29 recently brought many of those things together in one place: Elaine’s Cape May.

FOX 29’s Bob Kelly visited Elaine’s at 513 Lafayette Street for a special Bob at the Beach broadcast, spending the morning meeting local business owners, sampling some of what Cape May has to offer, and showcasing the people and experiences that make this seaside town such a special place to visit.

At the center of it all was Elaine’s Cape May, which served as the home base for the morning’s festivities. Here’s the very entertaining full video from Bob Kelly.

For visitors searching for a boutique hotel in Cape May, NJ, Elaine’s offers much more than a room for the night.

Elaine’s brings together a boutique hotel, restaurant, bars, outdoor decks and seating, live entertainment, and its own boutique shop—all within easy reach of downtown Cape May and the beach. The property currently features 20 boutique hotel suites, breakfast, dining, outdoor bars and decks, and live music every night during the season.

That combination made Elaine’s a fitting place for FOX 29 to gather so many different parts of the Cape May community.

Throughout the broadcast, Bob moved around Elaine’s, talked with guests and business owners, checked out local products and attractions, and even found time for some food and drinks. The result captured something we love about Cape May: you can start your morning with breakfast, spend the day exploring the water or town, enjoy dinner and cocktails, listen to live music, and make an entire vacation out of experiences that are just minutes apart.

One of the first Cape May attractions featured was the Cape May Whale Watch & Research Center.

Established in 1987, the Cape May Whale Watch & Research Center combines sightseeing with marine research, education and conservation. Guests aboard the American Star can search the waters around Cape May for dolphins, whales and other marine life while marine biologists, naturalists and research interns help explain what they are seeing.

The FOX 29 segment gave viewers a fun look at the research side of the operation as well, with marine-life photographs, educational materials and even some impressive specimens making an appearance.

For visitors putting together a list of things to do in Cape May, it’s a great example of how Cape May offers much more than simply a day at the beach.

Four-legged Cape May visitors got some attention too.

Salty Paws Cape May NJ joined Bob at Elaine’s with some of its colorful creations. Salty Paws specializes in treats made for dogs, including dog-friendly ice cream, cookies, bakery items and special-event experiences.

It was an especially fitting business to include in a Cape May broadcast, where vacations often include the whole family—including the dog.

The cameras also turned to local creativity and shopping with Moran Made Studio.

The segment featured a colorful display of jewelry, charms, bracelets and other pieces from the studio. Moran Made operates a Charm Bar and creates Cape May-inspired items, giving visitors another way to bring a little piece of the shore home with them.

Cape May’s independent shops, artists and makers are a big part of what separates the town from a typical beach destination, and it was great to see that side of the community represented at Elaine’s.

Jersey Shore Cruises joined the broadcast to showcase its Cape May boating experiences, including Cape May Party Cruises and The Salty Palm.

The Salty Palm is the company’s larger tropical-themed vessel, while Jersey Shore Cruises offers experiences ranging from sunset and golden-hour cruises to group outings, celebrations and live-music cruises.

The boat photos shown during Bob’s visit made a pretty compelling argument for adding some time on the water to a Cape May vacation.

Of course, a morning broadcast from Cape May needs coffee.

Local favorite Coffee Tyme was also featured. The family-owned Cape May coffee shop serves coffee, specialty drinks, breakfast sandwiches, pastries and other treats from its locations on Washington Street and Beach Avenue.

Whether you need a coffee before heading to the beach or something to keep you going while shopping downtown, Coffee Tyme has become a familiar stop for Cape May visitors and locals.

One of the most unusual attractions featured during the FOX 29 visit was Revolution Rail Co..

Bob even got onto one of the company’s distinctive rail bikes during the broadcast.

Revolution Rail gives visitors the opportunity to pedal specially designed rail bikes along historic railroad tracks. Its Cape May operation is based at 609 Lafayette Street, making it practically a neighbor of Elaine’s.

For anyone searching for unique things to do in Cape May, NJ, rail biking is certainly one experience that stands apart.

Cape May’s local craft beverage scene was represented by Behr Brewing.

Located on Seashore Road in Cape May, the locally founded brewery grew out of owners Steven and Catherine’s home-brewing hobby and eventually became a full brewery and taproom.

Behr Brewing brought some of its beers to Elaine’s for the FOX 29 segment, giving Bob another taste of the local businesses visitors can discover beyond Cape May’s beaches and historic streets.

Art was also part of the morning thanks to artist Sydnei SmithJordan and Legacy Link Mobile Art Studio.

Legacy Link is a 35-foot mobile art studio created by SmithJordan that brings hands-on creative programs directly to schools, community organizations, festivals, businesses and private groups. Workshops can include everything from painting and wearable art to sneakers, skateboards, pottery and other unconventional canvases.

SmithJordan is also an accomplished visual artist whose work can be explored through SmithJordan Arts.

It was another reminder during the broadcast that Cape May’s identity is built not only around hospitality and tourism, but also around the artists, entrepreneurs and creative people who call the area home.

The morning wasn’t limited to businesses. Bob also spent time celebrating one of Cape May’s beloved local traditions: the Cape May Baby Parade.

Families and children brought out elaborate costumes, decorated wagons and imaginative creations as Bob previewed the festivities. Visitors can find information on community events like the Baby Parade through the City of Cape May. The 2026 parade was scheduled for July 31 along Beach Avenue.

It was a perfect way to round out a broadcast centered on what makes Cape May feel like more than simply another vacation town: its community.
